Grammatical Turkey Chili
The Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar’s Turkey Chili takes 15 minutes to put together, and it’s good for the colon. (That's a fiber joke. We apologize.)
SPOGG doesn’t have a lot of time for cooking, but we like to eat. This recipe is easy to make, and uses ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. It won’t pass for gourmet cooking, but it will leave you plenty of time to circle the grammar errors in newspaper advertisements.
Bon appétit!
Ingredients
One small onion, chopped
One red pepper, chopped (green pepper works just as well)
One pound ground turkey
2 T chili powder (more if you like it spicy, less if you don’t)
1 t. cumin
1.5 t. coriander
1 t. oregano
3 cloves chopped garlic
Two 14-oz cans of white beans (or kidney beans, if you’d rather)
One 14-oz can of chopped tomatoes
One 14-oz can of tomato puree
Instructions
1. Cook the chopped onion, spices and red pepper in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat until soft.
2. Add the turkey and cook over medium-high heat until the turkey is no longer raw. Then add the beans, tomatoes and puree.
3. Bring to a boil.
4. Reduce the heat to low, and cook for about four hours.
You can also cook this in a slow cooker on low for about six hours. After step 1, move the turkey, onion and spices to a slow cooker, then add the rest of the ingredients.
Garnishes
We’ve served this with sour cream, cheddar cheese, Fritos or corn bread. It’s all good.
